PhD Opportunity in Machine Learning & Recommender Systems
publiée le 6/8/2026 2:26:50 PM
I am currently recruiting a fully funded PhD student to join the SAMOVAR lab at Télécom SudParis (Institut Polytechnique de Paris) starting in September 2026 (flexible start date). This position is financed by the Hi!Paris fellowship program. About the Project: The GRAIL (Grounded Recommendation with Auditable Inference Links) project tackles the structural challenge of two-sided cold start in labor market matching. The PhD research will focus on three core scientific axes: 1. Uncertainty-Aware Extraction: Designing pipelines to extract implicit skills from resumes and job descriptions while maintaining strict document-level provenance and confidence scores. 2. Hybrid Generative Recommendation: Inferring missing candidate-job interaction edges to restore predictive power. Every generated recommendation must be supported by an auditable inference link—a compact evidence subgraph that explicitly connects job requirements to candidate profiles. 3. Trustworthy AI & Fairness: Implementing rigorous equal-opportunity auditing focused on the candidate selection stage to evaluate and report utility-fairness trade-offs. Candidate Profile: I am looking for motivated candidates who possess: * A Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Data Science. * Solid foundational knowledge and technical mastery in NLP, foundation models, or heterogeneous graph learning. * Strong programming capabilities, algorithm design skills, and experience with large-scale experimentation. * Prior research experience is highly recommended. How to Apply: Please apply by sending (julien.romero@telecom-sudparis.eu) a comprehensive resume, a cover letter detailing your research interests, a transcript of your academic grades, and recommendation letters (highly appreciated).
